I have never been more hope-filled for the church I serve than this morning. It wasn’t the flashiest thing we’ve ever done. We’ve had lots of bigger and better programs. We have more organized and polished times of worship. We’ve had outreach events with hundreds of people in attendance. And yet I don’t know if we have ever done anything more real. At 6:00am on Thursday, September 29, 2016 a group of 26 people gathered in a sanctuary in Celina, Ohio and begged God to move in our midst. People poured out their hearts to the Lord and asked God to transform our church and community. We prayed for the lost and lonely. We prayed for the youth, children and vulnerable. We prayed for hearts that are cold to be brought back to life. We prayed for other churches and pastors by name that God would breakthrough in their ministries.
And when God’s people pray…God shows up.
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
One hour. One simple hour in the midst of a frenetic week, with all of life’s busyness and stress. One hour on an early Thursday morning can change everything.
Karl Barth said, “To clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder of the world.”
Today, Grand Lake Church, we began to stage an uprising. If you want to be a part of this powerful movement I’ll see you at 6:00am next Thursday in our St. Paul’s location sanctuary.
